Chartered Surveyor
Time at John German? I first joined John German Estate Agents in the Ashby office as a Trainee Land Agent in 1981. I qualified as a Chartered Surveyor a year later. After ten years in various parts of the country, I moved to the John German Stafford office. I was the head of the Residential Estate Agency and Valuation department. I stayed until we opened in Uttoxeter in 2004. I now work from Ashbourne and Uttoxeter, combining them with my role as Managing Director.
The best part of your job? Despite how long I have been doing it, I get immense satisfaction from doing a deal and achieving an excellent result for a client. It is great when clients follow your advice, especially when the results match or exceed everyone’s expectations.
Top tip for anyone selling a property? It is vital to prepare well to avoid unnecessary delays and avoidable issues spoiling the sale in the final stages of the deal. It is worth reviewing the house’s condition and sorting out teething problems that could deter buyers and create many damning words from surveyors. Also, ensure all the appropriate certificates and paperwork is readily available for your solicitor.
Sales Director
Time at John German? I’ve worked in the Estate Agency industry for over 20 years and have been with John German since 2002 working within the areas surrounding Burton upon Trent, Stafford, Uttoxeter and Ashby de la Zouch.
Best part of your job? I’m extremely focused on providing a high standard of customer service while achieving the best possible price for my clients. I thoroughly enjoy seeing the diverse range of properties we sell in Uttoxeter and helping people through the selling/buying process where every sale is slightly different.
What are your favourite hobbies? Outside of work I enjoy watching all kinds of sports having ‘retired’ from playing, though I do enjoy the odd round of golf. I also enjoy walking in the Peak District and socialising with my friends and family.
Lettings Director
Time at John German? Since 1995 but with 3 years off for good behaviour!
Favourite part of your job? Going out to meet landlords and gaining their confidence to instruct us…. And then finding them the perfect tenant!
Top tip for a landlord? Only buy a property to let in an area you would live!
What would be your dream home? A grand design home with full height windows overlooking countryside.
Sales Director
Time at John German? I have worked at John German since 2004, working my way through the ranks from part time Sales Negotiator to Sales Director.
Favourite part of your job? My passion for property came prior to me working at John German when I successfully renovated and sold properties for 10 years. I was very keen to take the next step by helping people sell their homes and there was only one agent I wanted to work for…JG!
Top tip for buyer or seller? Anyone putting their home onto the market declutter as much as possible.
What would be your dream home? Hard to choose but at the moment probably a detached minimalistic house by the coast with as much glass as possible.
Senior Sales Negotiator
What is your experience? My career in Estate Agency started as a Saturday role 7 years ago and has continued from there.
The best part of your job? I love that every day is different and each day you will speak to new people from a variety of different locations and assist them with their next move.
Top tip for a buyer or seller? Buyers – Try to enjoy the house buying process as although it can be stressful, it is also a very exciting time and should be enjoyed!
What would be your dream home? A property with huge windows in a secluded spot with views of countryside.
Senior Sales Negotiator
debbie.lycett@johngerman.co.uk
Time at John German? I have been with John German in Uttoxeter since 2011.
Best part of your job? My favourite part of the job is when we have a new house for sale and immediately know of a waiting buyer who will snap it up.
Top tip for buyer or seller? My advice to anyone selling a property would be to present it at its very best. Pack away any of those items that you can live without for a few months and take pets out of the house during viewings.
What would be your dream home? My dream home would be a modern detached property with beautiful gardens, a large balcony and an infinity pool overlooking a turquoise ocean. I’m not asking for much!
Senior Sales Negotiator
Time at John German? My passion for selling properties and land began when I was on work experience at the age of 15, I knew back then that I wanted to be an estate agent; and here I am, many years later still fulfilling my dream with John German in Uttoxeter.
Best part of your job? Agreeing a sale, seeing both the seller and the buyer happy is our ultimate goal. I enjoy overcoming hurdles that sometimes appear in the process, along with meeting new people and making friends along the way.
Top tip for buyer or seller? Buyers – ensure your finances are in place before you begin to look for properties, and have chosen a conveyancer (solicitor) in readiness to avoid any unnecessary delays with your purchase. Sellers – present your property and make it stand out from the rest, declutter and ensure it is clean and tidy. I am a great believer in kerb appeal, most prospective purchasers will drive past your property before even making a decision to view.

What is your experience? I joined John German in 2022 having worked in the industry for many years.
The best part of your job? Is building a rapport with my clients whilst sales progressing, I have made many friends over the years.
Top tip for buyer or seller? Just like it is crucial to choose a good agent, it’s important to use a good solicitor, the transaction once sold can be very stressful, you need to be able to contact your solicitor and understand what is going on.
What would be your dream home? A cosy home overlooking the magnificent views of the coast.
Sales Progressor
What is your experience? Before joining John German, I previously worked at a solicitors in the accounts department, a search company and I have also worked at another estate agents so I have all around knowledge of the moving process I have seen it from all different sides.
The best part of your job? Helping people through the sale progression process and being part of the journey to finding their new home.
Top tip for buyer or seller? Choose a good solicitor – communication is key to seeing things through in the least stressful way and we as the agent are here to help in any way we can, so feel free to ask any questions you may have.
Dream Home: Anywhere by the sea where you can breathe in the fresh sea air! Would be very modern with a beautiful sea view garden and heated hot tub!
Lettings Manager
Jessica.Winter@johngerman.co.uk
Experience: I started my career as a Lettings Negotiator for another company in 2018. Since then, I’ve been promoted twice and am now a Lettings Manager for John German.
Favourite part of your job? The favourite part of my job is meeting new people and helping them with their property search or finding great tenants.
Top tip for tenant or landlord? My top tip to landlords would be to trust the process. When you choose the right agent, they will ensure you receive the best service and are looked after throughout with as little to worry about as possible.
What would be your dream home? My dream home would be a detached Georgian or Edwardian, in a semi-rural location. It would be modern and light internally but have the features that make it original not to lose any character.
Legal Administration Manager
becky.scargill@johngerman.co.uk
Time at John German? I joined John German Estate Agents in 2011 and have worked for both the Lettings and Sales departments.
The best part of your job? It’s a fast-paced job which provides me with a great feeling of accomplishment when I find the perfect tenant for a landlord. Another aspect of the job I enjoy is building great relationships with our landlords and tenants. It feels good when they come back to us time and time again to re-let their properties or when they are looking for a new home.
What would be your dream home? My dream home would be a period property with plenty of old features and open fires, with somewhere to put a very big Christmas tree.

Time at John German? Since 2005 both in Sales and Lettings.
The best part of your job? Building up a good relationship with landlords and tenants alike.
Top tip for buyer or seller? First impressions really do count, maximise your kerb appeal and be realistic with the rental price to avoid the property sitting empty.
What would be your dream home? I’ve always really fancied a grand design type house, perhaps by Frank Lloyd or similar.
Lettings Accounts Manager
Time at John German? I started here in the summer of 2017.
The best part of your job? I enjoy all aspects of my job, especially working with such a friendly team.
Top tip for buyer or seller? Use John German!
What would be your dream home? A self-cleaning one! In a quiet location with oodles of character.
Accompanied Viewing Representative
Time at John German? I joined the team here at Uttoxeter in February 2017 having previously worked for another agency.
Favourite part of your job? Conducting the viewings at the wide variety of properties, big and small, town and country. Also meeting people with different requirement, from people looking for their first home to ‘seasoned’ home movers.
Top tip for buyer or seller ? When selling a property think about the ‘kerb appeal’ because you can only make a first impression once, and then de-clutter the property so it presents as best it can, while at the same time feeling homely.
What would be your dream home? If in the UK, a nice home in a village within walking distance to a nice country pub. Outside the UK, a villa in Cyprus.
Accompanied Viewing Representative
My experience at John German: I enjoyed stepping in for family and friends who were not keen on showing people around their property a year or so ago, but I have only recently taken on this role, after a number of years in the Insurance industry.
My favourite part of the job: I really enjoy meeting new people and helping them feel at ease when buying or selling a home, which can be stressful at the best of times.
Top tip for buyers and sellers: I would say that a clutter free home is more appealing to potential buyers: first impressions are so important. For the buyer, they need to know what they want and see the potential of the property.
My dream home: My dream home would be a small country cottage, with a beautiful garden and allotment, overlooking fields and woodland…but within walking distance of the village pub!
Accounts Manager
ellen.ireland@johngerman.co.uk
What would be your dream home? Double-fronted old cottage.
What are your hobbies? I really enjoy being outdoors and in particular running and cycling.
Accounts Administrator
What is your experience? Numbers have always been my thing. I started in accounts 28 years ago, worked through AAT and CIMA in various industries, and enjoyed a variety of roles in that time.
Top tip for buyer or seller? Declutter and depersonalise. Keep it clean and simple
Dream Home: I’d love to move back to the coast and have a cottage overlooking the sea
