Time at John German? Joined John German in 1998 at the Burton office and have worked in estate agency since leaving school.
Best part of your job? We sell properties but this business is all about people, working with our clients to achieve a sale and seeing them move home gives me tremendous satisfaction, more so, if difficulties have to be overcome along the way.
Top tip for buyer or seller? Seller: Do your research on estate agents before instructing one, it’s not all about a low fee! Buyer: Yes buy with your head but let your heart have a say too!
What would be your dream home? A contemporary glass and steel home overlooking an estuary.
Sales Director
Time at John German? I have worked at John German since 2004, working my way through the ranks from part time Sales Negotiator to Sales Director.
Favourite part of your job? My passion for property came prior to me working at John German when I successfully renovated and sold properties for 10 years. I was very keen to take the next step by helping people sell their homes and there was only one agent I wanted to work for…JG!
Top tip for buyer or seller? Anyone putting their home onto the market declutter as much as possible.
What would be your dream home? Hard to choose but at the moment probably a detached minimalistic house by the coast with as much glass as possible.

Time at John German? I joined John German in April 2007.
Favourite part of your job? Being out and about looking at lots of different houses.
What would be your dream home? Anything with a sea view and beach would be good.
Property Valuer
Favourite part of your job? I enjoy the many varied aspects of my job, but the most satisfying is working closely with our customers to understand the motivation to move home.
Top tip for buyer or seller? If you are looking to buy, it is essential to seek financial advice before you go out on viewings – getting a mortgage can be one of the biggest challenges when purchasing a property. It’s good to know that you can afford something before you fall in love with it. Also, when selling, choose your agent carefully – a low fee may be attractive but having an agent that keeps you updated and works with you every step of the way can take a lot of stress out of the process and be worth every penny.
What would be your dream home? A spacious country cottage on the coast, within easy walking distance of the beach.
Sales Manager
Time at John German? I joined John German in 2014 and thoroughly enjoy working within a very successful team.
Best part of your job? Handing over keys to a new owner, knowing you have helped make their dreams come true.
Top tip for buyer or seller? My top tip when selling a property is to ensure your home is clean, tidy and smells fresh so it looks its best from the outset.
What are your hobbies? Outside of work, I spend most of my time with my cocker and with my friends and family, along with exercising when I can and shooting throughout the winter.
Assistant Sales Manager
chelsea.herbert@johngerman.co.uk
Time at John German? I started working at John German in 2014.
Favourite part of your job? Dealing with a wide variety of people and helping them find a new home.
Top tip for buyer or seller? To ensure you don’t miss out on any new properties or price reductions sign up for JG Property Alerts, we will keep you posted before they go on Rightmove!
What would be your dream home? Ideally a modern, one of a kind property in a bustling city.
Sales Negotiator
Time at John German? I came to work in the sales team at Burton in March 2015 having previously worked for John German in lettings.
Favourite part of your job? I love negotiating on a property and agreeing a sale. It’s so satisfying getting a property sold for a client and helping to make a buyer’s dreams come true.
Top tip for buyer or seller? For a seller make sure your home is welcoming, clean and tidy.

Time at John German? I started at John German in January 2018. We bought our house from JG in 2015 and were so impressed with the service I decided I needed to work for them!
Favourite part of your job? Getting to know new buyers and sellers, hearing from happy clients and letting people know an offer has been accepted! Moving can be a stressful process for people, so it’s lovely to brighten up their day!
Top tip for buyer or seller? If you need a mortgage, speak to a mortgage advisor to get an Agreement in Principle in place before you start your search. This will put you in a much better position when making an offer on a property.
Sales Progressor
stephen.whinyates@johngerman.co.uk
Favourite part of your job? Having positive feedback from a happy seller or buyer and experiencing their excitement when the sale completes.
Top tip for buyer or seller? Seller: Make sure your property is clean, tidy and presentable for viewings. Buyer: Do the ground work on your finances and make sure you feel financially comfortable with a purchase.
What would be your dream home? My dream home would be an old fashioned cottage in a picture postcard village location.

Lettings Director
Time at John German? Since 1995 but with 3 years off for good behaviour!
Favourite part of your job? Going out to meet landlords and gaining their confidence to instruct us…. And then finding them the perfect tenant!
Top tip for a landlord? Only buy a property to let in an area you would live!
What would be your dream home? A grand design home with full height windows overlooking countryside.
Lettings Manager
marie.sherwin@johngerman.co.uk
Time at John German? I have been with John German since 2012, and I am now Senior Lettings Manager across the region.
Favourite part of the job? I love how fast-paced lettings is. A house can come on the market, and within a few weeks, we are handing over the keys to an excited tenant ready to begin the next chapter of their lives.
Top tip for a tenant? Be prepared. When you have found a property and have your application accepted, the next step is the referencing process. Therefore, beforehand make your referees aware that they will be getting contacted for a reference. This saves valuable time and prevents delays in moving into the property.
Lettings Administrator
becky.scargill@johngerman.co.uk
Time at John German? I joined John German Estate Agents in 2011 and have worked for both the Lettings and Sales departments.
The best part of your job? It’s a fast-paced job which provides me with a great feeling of accomplishment when I find the perfect tenant for a landlord. Another aspect of the job I enjoy is building great relationships with our landlords and tenants. It feels good when they come back to us time and time again to re-let their properties or when they are looking for a new home.
What would be your dream home? My dream home would be a period property with plenty of old features and open fires, with somewhere to put a very big Christmas tree.
Tenancy Manager
How long have you been at John German? Since 2019.
Favourite part of your job? I absolutely love lettings and the industry. I enjoy the job as a whole. I love the problem solving and the satisfaction when a maintenance job is complete, and both landlord and tenant are satisfied. I also love handing keys hand over to a tenant. Watching them get excited about moving into their new home is very rewarding. It is also satisfying being part of a team, not only as work colleagues but also as my working family; they make the bad days bearable.
What would be your dream home? For me, it would be a small cottage in the middle of nowhere with my two children. A place we can swing away on a swingy wooden chair, listen to the birds sing with the sun on our faces and put our worries behind us. However, home to me is where ever the heart is.
Accompanied Viewing Representative
Time at John German? I joined in 2018 and enjoy working with a great team who are held in such high regard as one of the leading estate agents in Burton.
The best part of your job? After 40 years as an Estate Agent I enjoy passing on my experience to sellers and buyers, along with working with highly trained and efficient colleagues.
Top tip for buyer or seller? For those selling a property, put your trust in an established local estate agent with a successful track record, one who will guide you professionally through the whole process from the initial valuation to a successful completion. If you are looking for a new home or investment property, establish a rapport with your local estate agents. The more they know about you and your search the higher chance you will have finding your perfect home or investment. Also take financial advice early on to help with your purchase.
