Preparing your garden for winter

1

Whether your house is on the market or not, it’s always a good idea to keep your garden as beautiful as your home because you never know, having a wonderful garden (big or small) could be the deciding factor for that all important buyer! We’ve put together a few simple tips on preparing your garden for winter.

Tips on preparing your garden for winter

Tidy borders – Dig up your annuals and plant winter bedding plants such as pansies and wallflowers to give your garden some colour over the winter months.

Maintain your lawn – Rake up moss patches, aerate any well-worn compacted areas of grass (paths etc) by spiking holes with a garden fork to increase drainage. Now is also a good time to plant new turf to give it time to take hold before spring next year.

Plant evergreens – keep your garden looking full using evergreens to provide all year round foliage. Want to try something artistic? Why not buy some ‘box’ and clip it into shape – This can make a good frame for a front door and make your home look very inviting.

Net your pond – save yourself lots of time in the spring by keeping the autumn leaves out of your pond and clogging up filters. It should also stop your water turning foul!

Plant spring bulbs – you may not see the benefit straight away but when you see the snow drops and daffodils popping up next year you will be glad you did it and they can really ‘pretty up’ the exterior of your property, after all ‘first impressions’ are so important.

We hope you found this article helpful and wish you luck preparing your garden for winter!
