Five garden rules for viewings

1

Wow buyers with your garden by getting it ready for viewings. Follow these five garden rules to make the best first impression.

Five garden rules for viewings

1. Mow the lawn

We know it’s not always easy to find a day when it’s not raining to mow the lawn. However, mowing the lawn is a simple way to make sure your garden appears well kept and easy to maintain. Also, why not try mowing in some stripes, impressing buyers with your straight lines!

2. Keep the garden clean

To fellow dog lovers & owners out there, remember to make sure lawns and paths are clean. We wouldn’t want a buyer stepping into something they shouldn’t!

3. Make the most out of your patio

Patios and terraces are a great selling point, they can add extra appeal to your property. Dressing a patio helps buyers to visualise themselves using the outdoor space, enjoying alfresco dining, summer barbecues and family entertaining. So when preparing your garden for viewings and the marketing photographs, take off any furniture covers, lay out soft furnishings, jet wash the decking and pot some colourful plants. In addition, to add a little ambience, why not light some lanterns or turn on any external lamps you may have.

4. Free up some space

We don’t all have big gardens, if yours is quite small with large children’s play equipment eating into the space, pack this away, especially before your pictures are taken. I’m sure the kids won’t mind, but if they do, bribe them with some ice cream and a trip to the local park!

5. Time it right

Any estate agent worth their salt will check the orientation of the garden and take marketing photos at the correct time of day. Ideally, this should be on a nice sunny day with the sun pointing in the right direction.
