Selling a property during the summer holidays

1

The summer is prime time for buyers searching for a new home and probably the same time you are thinking about getting away on holiday. Now we all deserve a holiday, so don’t let this put you off booking a trip. Selling a property during the summer holidays needn’t be a hassle and can easily be taken care of.

Selling a property during the summer holidays

Ask your agent to carry out viewings

Going away on holiday shouldn’t be a problem as long as your estate agent carry out accompanied viewings. Tell them your plans and ask them to do viewings whilst you’re away. They can keep you posted on feedback via email or text.

Prepare for viewings before you go away

Summer is a perfect time for buyers to be shown round your property – the sun will be shining (hopefully) and the garden will be in full bloom. So before you set off on your travels, prepare the house for viewings.

  • Mow the lawn, pull weeds and hide the bins.
  • Do a thorough clean, empty bins and throw away food from the fridge (just in case of a nosey buyer!).
  • Buy an automatic air freshener, sticking with neutral scents like vanilla.

Keep your house safe and secure

Whilst you are away, make sure your agent is aware that the house is empty and give them strict instructions to keep this private. If you have a trusted neighbour, ask them to pop into the house to draw the curtains in the evenings and open them again in the mornings – nothing is more obvious that you’re away than curtains closed throughout the day. It is also a good idea to ask them to pick up gathering post from the letterbox.

As previously said, summer is a key time for buyers who are serious about finding a property.  Avoid postponing putting your house on the market until you are back from your holiday, we wouldn’t want buyers finding something else in the meantime!
