2020 was a miserable write-off for most of us due to the pandemic. And 2021 has been a slog with the Covid-19 fallout, energy price hikes, and fuel queues that make the lines outside shops during traditional New Year sales look like child’s play. But there is good news on the horizon, especially if you think of moving home in the new year.
The property market in the Midlands remains strong. We still see plenty of activity as people continue to evaluate what they want from their humble abodes. Below are 3 to-dos before moving house in the New Year so you can do to take advantage of the current situation, sell successfully, and make your move in 2022.
1. Get ready now
If your goal is to move house by January or February, get ready now and finish odd jobs around the house. Also, it’s an excellent time to organise your property’s paperwork (guarantees, warranties etc.) and begin decluttering. In our experience, nearly everyone has too much stuff!
2. Call in the estate agents
Call in three estate agents to give you a valuation (don’t forget John German!). But, whatever you do, avoid being swayed purely by the highest valuation. Instead, look for an estate agent with a good track record and a clear marketing plan. And don’t forget to go with your gut instinct!
3. Change your mindset
If you’ve made up your mind and are sure you want a new home in the new year, start thinking like a prospective buyer instead of a seller. Ask your friends (especially the ones who always speak their minds) what they think of your home and how you can make it more appealing.
