Covid-19 changing our property requirements

1

It goes without saying, Covid-19 has turned the world upside down, physically, socially and financially. It’s playing havoc with our daily lives and taking away some of life’s simple pleasures. We can no longer travel anywhere we like, own the dance floor at a wedding or pop into a shop without wearing a mask.

Working from home has also become the new normal. Instead of our usual daily commutes, it’s straight out of bed and into the kitchen for a Zoom meeting. There are many pros to working from home; such as the flexibility to take care of appointments and errands. There are fewer interruptions from meetings and chitchat. Plus there is no commute time or expense.

However, the lines between work and home are becoming blurred with no physical separation between work and leisure time. You have to make the effort to get a change of scenery. Therefore,  it’s no surprise that our property requirements are changing. A recent survey* reveals space to work from home, broadband speed and a garden have all moved up the agenda for over 30% of buyers. In the case of ‘space to work from home,’ it was closer to 40%.

As people’s property requirements shift towards home working, consider setting up your spare bedroom or snug as an office space. By doing so, buyers will be able to visualise how your home would work as a work-space or multiple workspaces.

There are plenty of simple solutions to create a stylish and functional home office space without spending a fortune. Check out Pinterest for inspiration.
