On Sunday 18th September Matt Slater, Manager at John German Estate Agents in Uttoxeter, was extremely proud to sponsor the inaugural Leigh Cricket Club Charity Cricket Match in aid of raising funds for the club, Leigh PCC and Leigh Recreational Ground which played host to the event.
Bowled over by such a brilliant day
The day was blessed with glorious sunshine and the villagers came out in force to support the occasion, with the BBQ running out of the locally reared produce, and the bar and cake stall doing a roaring trade (no surprise there, playing/watching cricket is thirsty work).
Fun for all the family
For the younger members of the crowd there was Village Skittles, Lawn Darts and Jenga. There was also a charity raffle where the prizes included an England Cricket ODI shirt donated by Waitrose, England Rugby merchandise and other prizes donated by local companies.
Leigh Presidents’ XI vs Guest XI
The match was played between Leigh CC and a Guest XI featuring past and present players of all ages plus some imposters (including Matt himself!). The match was hotly contested but played with a great sportsmanship which saw Leigh CC win both the Twenty20 game and the ‘10 Over Thrash’.
At the trophy presentation Andy Backhouse who organised the event and Leigh CC President Graham Burton thanked all the villagers and sponsors for their support.
Matt comments “Leigh CC is a fantastic cricket club for the local community, they provide excellent entertainment during the summer months when they play weekly matches as part of the North Staffs and South Cheshire Premier Cricket League. They also provide an opportunity for those new to cricket to take part in friendly games against local clubs every Sunday, where anyone of any ability can play and have a good day out.
