Saturday September 26th saw the annual Abbots Bromley 10k and Fun Run, which this year was being held for the first time around Blithfield Reservoir.
More than 100 runners took part in the 10k run and fun run, arranged by Abbots Bromley Sports Association, to help raise funds for a new sports field for the village.
Race day morning was met with glorious sunshine and combined with the new venue, made for a stunning spectacle. John German were the main sponsors on race day which helped to raise a total of £1,400.
Andy Kirkland, race controller for the 10k commented…
“We are looking to secure this location as a permanent base and grow the event year on year now, to attract runners in bigger numbers, whilst not losing the personal connection with competitors that we currently enjoy.
John German have supported various events over recent years towards fund raising for the new village sports ground development, which has helped our cause enormously.”
The 10k ladies race was won by Jennifer Cheetham in a rapid time of 45minutes 10 seconds. She was followed home by Joanne Stephenson (51:10) and Anna Delves (53:21).
The men’s race was won by Timothy Dredge with an impressive 36 minute 58 second run. Second was Andy Emmerson (39:39) closely followed home by Dave Elkin (40:03)
The first girl home in the fun run was Belle Hancox and for the boys, Joe Haywood.
