This is the time of year when things get serious. The paints come out, needles are threaded and creative juices start flowing; it's the time of year our sales teams in Burton & Barton take part in the Barton Gardens Festival scarecrow competition!
Inspired by the recent success of Disney's Beauty and the Beast, the Burton/Barton ladies and gents based their entry on the fairytale. For weeks, at home, they worked tirelessly to create favourite characters including Belle, the Beast, Cogsworth the mantle clock and Lumiere the Beast's charismatic bouteiller who has been transformed into a candelabra.
The hardwork and superb effort paid off, with the Beauty and the Beast scarecrow winning 1st Prize!
John German Sponsors of Barton Gardens Festival 2017
We are extremely pleased to support the Barton Garden Fesitival. Organisers do a fantastic job to ensure there is plenty of fun for all generations:
Open gardens - A chance to explore 10 'hidden gardens' around the village, lovingly tended by their various owners.
Scarecrow competition - Dotted around Barton village, the quirky scarecrows are designed to amuse. Gold, silver and bronze medals for top 3 in each class. John German Estate Agents won gold (cough).
Teddy rides - A particluar fave of ours, quite bonkers but lots of fun!
Organiser, Charles reflects on the weekend:
"Barton Gardens Festival and Teddy Extravaganza was once again a great success. The teddy passports kindly sponsored by John German were appreciated by the bears and their owners; each teddy was photographed and given a Teddical, and then X-rayed before being allowed onto the rides.
All 8 teddy rides were in full swing on both Saturday and Sunday afternoons, and no teddies were lost during the event, although one or two had to have plasters applied to them by the Paratedics. Rides experienced by the brave bears included Skywire (bear goes into a rocket to the top of the church tower and strikes a gong), Oblivion (bear hurtles from the top of the tower into a smoking barrel) and Boat – a – Bear, the teddy equivalent of the Boat Race. Down at the village pond we had the Barton Belle – where teddies ride round the pond in a paddle steamer – and Top Gun Ted – teddies in an aeroplane are guided into land by their young owners.
John German Estate Agents also sponsored the bus we hired to go round the gardens, some of which were out of the village, and that was very much appreciated by the older generation, especially on such a hot day (32 degrees recorded!)
Having your sponsorship enabled us to plan the event with confidence, because with you as our main sponsors and others also contributing, our costs were covered before the weekend, so that we would not lose money if there was a washout. As it is, we will be able to give a good amount of money to this year’s 4 charities – Staffordshire Blood Bikes, Maasai Warriors school fund, Air ambulance and Burton Hospital Palliative Care Overnight Bags. Every year we also support our Church appeal as well.
So a heartfelt thank you from our committee, and from all our visitors, both young and old."
"We have yet again been impressed by the professional attitude of the staff in Ashbourne."
